Ecuador – Ants that taste like lemons

In the jungle we had our own cabin and our own beds The food was amazing and almost every day we went on a canoe and spotted everything we could. Our guide was called Diego and he was really kind. We saw Scarlett Macaws and blue and yellow Macaws and chestnut-fronted Macaws. We also saw lots of other beautiful birds which I can’t name because they were too many!! We also saw two sloths and lots of ants, such as leaf cutter  ants, which my brother wrote about and I recommend you read! And bullet ants which if they bite you it will feel like a bullet for 24 hours!!,

Every time we went on a night walk we could have been surrounded by anything literally! Every time we shine our torch we saw something interesting, for example crickets grasshoppers and spiders. Also there was a special tree that walked – all the trees in the jungle compete for the light and so the walking tree moves to get more light so when one or two roots dies it grows more roots that stick out further so the tree moves a bit. However in 20 years it will move only 5 metres.

On one of our walks, Diego took us to a tree with lots of ants in it and told us how to eat them and when I did it tasted like lemon. They tasted really nice.

One night when we were all sitting at dinner, when a wet frog jumped on y hand and how that scared me! it felt so slimy!,! And another time Gabriel and dad found one on a sign post.
In in the bar on the hand rail there was a small snake, which freaked me out and then MIllie ran her hand along the rail!! Mum got so scared that she screamed and then MIllie stopped, saw the snake and she was about to run over and then burst out laughing.

  2. Hi Jemima, what is that on your nose?!!! I’m extremely envious of your incredible Amazon adventure. Wildlife in the Cotswolds isn’t nearly so exciting!! I did a school project on pink river dolphins in the rainforest, have you seen any?Lots of love, Freya xxxx
