New Zealand – puzzles and rocks

We went to Wanaka and we were staying in Heather’s aunt’s house (her name was Joss) which had an awesome trampoline. One day we went rock climbing with Heather, Toby, Zebedee, Loma, Thalia, Biddy, Fox and Otis. Biddy put a harness on and clipped herself to Heather and climbed the rock until she got to the first bolt. She clipped the carabiner on to the bolt and then climbed up and up and did that four times until she reached the top. She then held onto the rope and leant back and walked herself down the rock. After that it was safe for everyone else to climb the rock.

I went first and I tried on special rock climbing shoes to help me grip. It wasn’t as easy as it looked but eventually I reached the first bolt. I held onto the rope and leaned back just like Biddy did and walked back down the rock. Then it was Otice’s turn – he did exactly the same thing only he reached the top. Otis is only six and he did really well. Meanwhile Fox showed me down to the river and we played on the swing until it was her or my turn again. Before lunch I had my second turn only this time I reached the top of the rock and just went in bare feet. It was easier with bare feet because the shoes were very tight and very uncomfortable and my feet had a good grip and clinged on to the rock to give me a good support.

Another day we went to a place called Puzzling world which was topsy-turvy. First we went into the illusion rooms and saw things that weren’t actually there such as holograms. For example, we saw a clown but if you took just one step to the side the picture completely changed. And there was a Lego guy who popped out and if you stood at least 1m away from him you could see it sticking out from your eyes and and if you tried to catch it you you would fail because it was only a hologram.

The tilted house was completely topsy-turvy and everything was the wrong way round. For instance, the swing was sticking out, the water flowed upwards. The floor was tilted upwards. There was a pool table and if you put the ball at the bottom, it would roll upwards instead of downwards!!!

How many words can you see? How many words can you see?

How many legs does this elephant have? How many legs does this elephant have?

  1. Dear Jemima puzzle world is realy funny. I realy want to go ther because I think itwill be fun! I hope you have fun in South America. when Mummy and Daddy went to New Zealand I didn’t exist because Oscar was in mummy’s tummy and if Oscar’s in Mummy’s tummy then that means I didn’t exist! Mummy showed me some pictures of when she went ot New Zealand. I can tell she had a lovely time because of the pictures. On one of the pictures daddy looked like he was cuddling a tree and also in Puzzle world Daddy was standing in one corner and he looked really small and when he was standing in the other corner he looked really big. When Mummy said that you went time travelling, I was really surprised, I thought she was making it up but then when she showed me how you time travelled I was really amazed and I thought you were time travelling experts! This weekend its Grampy’s birthday. I’m really excited. and on the 18th of March we’re going to do our dance performance. It’s going to be great. Also on Friday we’re going to the victorian Museum and I’m really excited about that because Victoria is my middle name. And we have to dress up in Victorian clothes.I hope you haven’t been ill, because then it would spoil the whole thing.I can’t wait to see you all when you get back.Love Alex xxx
