Arrival in Nepal

We arrived in Nepal with Greetings from Karma who was going to take us on a tour around the mountains. We headed towards him and he headed towards us and gave us some scarfs as a welcome to Nepal which was lovely! We arrived in Kathmandu at 9 am – as we arrived we got swept along by the children and in 5 mins we were best friends with all of them and followed everywhere

Roof top activities:

We went up on the roof top and nearly everyone in the family was up there. Karmu was spinning wool with Pema. Atti was doing homework and Sonam was washing.

Diwali:

For Diwali, we lit candles on the stairs and painted the floor with a path leading upstairs for the money God. It was a really nice atmosphere and all the kids went off in groups of five or six and people left the doors open for all the kids to come and sing and dance for them. After, the people they were dancing for gave them some money. They arrived back at their own house very late at night.

Also, in Diwali there was crow day, dog day, and cow day. We were walking in town and every now and again we would see dogs with Red  marks on their head and flower garlands round their neck. They looked like kings and queens with all the decorative things they were wearing. And then the next day it was just the same with the cows.

Next it was brothers day and all of the girls prepared plates with chocolate, bread, fruit and nuts for the boys to eat. At the real ceremony, the girls poured Mountain Dew energy drink into the boys’ special cup for them to drink. The parents of all the boys gave them an envelope with money in. After that, the sisters would give the boys the flower garlands and put it around their neck and put a red mark on their forehead.  Then the boys would give the girls the envelope with money in that the parents gave them and the girls could keep the money and send it on whatever they wanted.

    1. Dear Evie and RubyHow’s school? You know the Malaysian girl that you told me about that came to our class, it was funny because I was reading that email the minute we arrived in Malaysia. Yesterday we went to a lagoon pool, which was a bit like the moon pool in H20 just add water, but even better you could jump from trees into the water and swing from swings and let go and splash in the water. It was such fun. Everyone there was a tourist. Today we went tubing, which is where you take the inside of a truck tyre out and you sit in it and float down the river which was pretty fun too, but after a while I got bored. Tomorrow we might go zip wiring, with a harness over the limestone mountain, and over the lagoon pool, which will take around 50 mins. I miss you so much as well, too much, way too much. From your a friend till the end Love Jemima xxxxxxPs how’s life in St Margaret’s?
